Individual Psychotherapy

In my practice I offer individual therapy for adults. I have over 20 years experience helping clients with a variety of issues including :

  • anxiety and feeling overwhelmed or stressed

  • depression

  • lack of meaning or purpose and general life dissatisfaction

  • dating and relationships including exploration of unhealthy relationship patterns

  • marriage and family conflict, divorce, and infidelity

  • life transitions such as moving, starting a new job, beginning college or graduating, midlife transitions, “empty nest”, relationship changes, retirement, aging

  • not feeling good enough and negative self talk

  • grief and loss

  • Burnout

  • Caregiver stress

In our first few sessions we will identify goals for our work together. I welcome clients of differing backgrounds, beliefs, and cultures into my practice.

I am currently providing therapy exclusively through video and telephone. While it has been an adjustment from in person sessions, my clients have still found it useful.

My Style

My style is warm, interactive, nonjudgmental, and empathic. I approach therapy as a collaborative partnership. While I'll certainly do a lot of listening and exploring with you, I'll also share my thoughts and, if needed, provide you with new tools and strategies. Depending on your situation, we might decide that there are things for you try out between sessions. Together we'll identify patterns in your life that are no longer working for you and find new ways of living that give you greater fulfillment.

After our first couple of sessions together you will have a good sense of whether or not you feel comfortable working with me. Research shows that a good fit between therapist and client is essential to successful therapy so you want to make sure that you feel like we click.

My Approach

I draw from several therapy approaches including relational, psychodynamic, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), and mindfulness therapies. Staying up to date with current research and practice directions is important to me and I enjoy sharing what I learn with my clients. I'm really excited about new developments in the area of positive psychology which explores how people can become happier and more fulfilled. Mindfulness, self compassion, and gratitude are some of the practices from positive psychology that I occasionally weave into my work. In addition to in person work, I can also provide teletherapy upon request if it seems appropriate for you.
